• Why do I need a breastfeeding class? Won’t they help me at the hospital?
Many Moms are told during pregnancy that they will “figure it out” when it comes to breastfeeding. Or they hear that their mother’s intuition will kick in. What if issues come up early on? What if it doesn’t come as naturally to you as described? As one client put it, “I thought so much about the labor and delivery, I didn’t even think about feeding my baby which is the main focus after baby is here.” Research tells us that the number one indicator of breastfeeding success is a prenatal breastfeeding class! Knowledge is power. Having access to reliable information prenatally helps create confidence and enables Moms to tap into their mother’s intuition more readily.
    • When should I take a class?
Anytime after 12 weeks in pregnancy is a great time to take a class. If you just found us, classes provide immediate assistance and education after delivery, too.
    • I want to take a class, how do I signup?
No need to check out dates/times, you can take a class right now, in your jammies! Our online classes are available on-demand to click and watch at your convenience. So many clients have loved watching the classes with their partner in their own home, on their own schedule. If you are local to Utah, we have in-person group classes. You can register for those here.
    • I only want to breastfeed for the first month, should I still take a class?
Yes! I want to help you reach your goals, whatever they may be! What works for one mom, won’t work for another. It’s less about do’s and dont’s and more about offering the information and support you need.
    • How will I remember the information?
Each video class comes with a class outline that you can print and take notes on. Many of my clients have referred to this as their “Breastfeeding Bible” and use it anytime they need a refresher or are experiencing an issue. You can also watch the classes again — they don’t expire!
    • How can I get answers to specific questions I have?
I’ve taught this class over 100 times, so I built the class around questions that get asked almost every class. That being said, if you have specific questions or need help with your situation, we have e-consults that you can signup for here. These are 25-min sessions via secure, HIPPA-compliant video chat. This is the safest way to give you accurate suggestions and support.
    • I’ve breastfed my other children successfully – would I benefit from a class?
Lactation Link classes are not just for first time Moms! I have so many clients who have breastfed other children successfully and told me how much they learned from the classes. Every baby is different and each breastfeeding experience can have its own challenges. It’s important to have a refresher and gain more tools than you had before!
    • I didn’t have a great experience with my first baby. Is there a chance I can breastfeed my other babies?
Every baby is different! So many women have taken my classes wanting a different experience and got it! If you didn’t have a great experience the first go around its not your fault! Most women who don’t meet their breastfeeding goals didn’t have enough resources or support. I’m here to help you have the experience you want!
    • Can I get my insurance to pay for the video classes?
You can request an itemized receipt from us and submit to your insurance. Every policy is different and there is no guarantee of coverage. However, a breastfeeding class usually falls under ‘eligible expenses’ for a healthcare savings account.
    • I just found Lactation Link and I already had my baby. Should I still take a class?
The video classes are a blueprint for how to latch your baby, how to decrease pain, and how to have confidence baby is getting enough! You may live in an area without an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant or it may take a day or two to get an appointment. The classes provide immediate assistance without leaving your house.
